A good friend of mine from 291 Whiskey had asked me one day, if I was interested in doing a 50-mile ruck. The first thing I responded with was 50 miles straight? Heck yeah, I’m in! I had the opportunity to meet Chad at the 50 FTF kick-off party not long after and started to get to know his “WHY”. I was immediately drawn to his story and testimony and a week later completed my first 50-mile ruck in Washington DC. I have been to every single ruck since then and continue to
not only thrive through my “WHY”, but also helping others find their own, and supporting 50 for the Fallen in anyways I can. My “WHY” for constantly showing up and giving my all to the team is my family. I am the father of 2 daughters who look up to me every day. I want them to know a life of servant leadership and to one day find their own “WHY”. Every ruck hits different and none of them are easy, yet the lifelong connections that are created and the “WHY’s” that are discovered continue to help me heal from my own trauma and become a better leader. It is selfish to think that my burdens outweigh anyone else’s so as I continue to grow and thrive with 50 FTF, I discover more capacity to serve and support others, this organization and its mission, and the communities we come in contact with. Many times you will find me up front leading the pack with a radio in one hand and a map in the other hand constantly checking the route and talking back and forth with the team. I help to make sure the element is staying tight while relaying information back and forth to the rear and support team to ensure that everyone is staying healthy and on course. You will also find me checking and wrapping participant’s feet throughout ruck. I usually have a smile on my face and make a lot of noise, as I like to ensure the morale and energy stays high. If you don’t see me up front then you can be sure I’m supporting the event in one way or another.
