What Happens at a 50?
FAQ & Prep
Rucking is the act of walking with weight on your back. Our ruck is geared towards endurance and is intended to test your limits. 50FtF does not mandate a set weight for participants. It's your decision on how much to carry. Choose wisely!
We ruck to raise awareness for our mission, build community, and as a tribute to those who have gone before us.
We always end the ruck tired, dirty, and sore. Chafing and blisters happen. However, you will meet incredible people, make meaningful connections, and push yourself in ways you never imagined.
- Camelbacks or small backpacks are great for beginners. Avoid drawstring bags as they will cut into your shoulders.
- Start with our 10 mile ruck and see how it goes. Walk what you can with us, even if it's a mile or two!
- Season your feet as best you can.
- Eat and hydrate constantly on the ruck.
- Use our packing list.
Our Signature Ruck Series
Preparation is key for anyone planning to take part in the 50 for the Fallen Ruck March. This event is physically demanding and mentally intense, so it’s important to train your body and mind in advance. Start by incorporating regular walks or hikes with a weighted backpack into your routine, gradually increasing distance and weight to build endurance. Focus on strengthening your legs, back, and core—these muscle groups will carry the load. Hydration and nutrition also play a critical role, both before and during the march, so begin developing healthy habits now.
Equally important is selecting the right gear. Choose a sturdy ruck or backpack, comfortable moisture-wicking clothing, and well-fitted boots or shoes designed for long distances. Break in your footwear well before the event to avoid blisters. Pack smart: bring only essentials, but be sure to include extra socks, foot care items, and light snacks.
Most importantly, prepare your heart and mindset. The ruck is a time of remembrance, connection, and resilience. Come ready to share your “WHY,” listen to others, and support your fellow participants. Together, we carry more than weight—we carry each other.
